## Summary

Imperial War Museums is procuring refurbishment works for the north-side doors of Hangar 3 at IWM Duxford. The work concerns a historic First World War building, listed at Grade II*, and is intended to return the doors to operational use so they can support flying partners’ activities. The scope includes repairing and, where necessary, replacing components such as wheels, hinges and runners. The requirement is a works contract covering refurbishment, joinery and conservation-related building work. Delivery will take place at the museum’s Hangar 3 site in Duxford, within an operational public environment. The works must protect the historic fabric of the building and accommodate the museum’s ongoing activities while the doors are repaired.

The procurement has reached tender: Imperial War Museums invited offers through a below-threshold open competition. Potential suppliers were required to submit enquiries by 1 September 2026 at 12:00 and offers by 11 September 2026 at 12:00. The contract period is 21 September to 18 December 2026. Its estimated value is £120,000 excluding VAT, or £144,000 including VAT. There is one lot, and the opportunity is identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. Evaluation is based on cost at 30% and quality at 70%: technical installation management 20%, management and organisational experience 20%, programme 10%, team 10% and sustainability 10%. Electronic submission is allowed, using the stated eSourcing response route.

This opportunity suits contractors with demonstrable experience working on historic buildings, particularly timber structures and sensitive refurbishment projects. Suppliers need to manage repairs in a Grade II* listed First World War building, coordinate carefully with the museum and its flying partners, and work safely in a busy public environment. Relevant capability includes assessing and repairing or replacing timber, wheels, hinges, runners, tracks and rollers, with joinery expertise needed for the door works. The appointed contractor will also need to provide final repair details, including the extent of timber replacement and epoxy resin repairs, and justify proposed replacement tracks, rollers and wheels. Strong project management, organisation, programming, team capability and sustainable working practices will be important in the quality assessment.
