## Summary

The UK Atomic Energy Authority is planning to replace an obsolete 415V power distribution unit (PDU29). The unit comprises four air circuit breakers: one incoming feed and three outgoing ways. The requirement is for goods, potentially supplied either as separate parts for UKAEA to assemble on site or as a complete PDU manufactured by the supplier and delivered as a distribution panel ready for installation. The equipment is associated with UKAEA’s Culham Science Centre in Oxfordshire. The procurement is categorised as interruptible power supplies (CPV 31156000). UKAEA is using market engagement to understand whether suppliers can provide the parts-only or complete-panel solution and to shape the eventual requirement.

This process is at the planning stage and is an intention to procure, not an invitation to tender. UKAEA expects to decide the final scope after market engagement, with a subsequent notice anticipated by 30 September 2026. An engagement survey is scheduled to close on 25 August 2026. The current estimated value is £100,000 excluding VAT, or £120,000 including VAT. The planned contract period is 1 January to 30 June 2027. The procurement is expected to be a single lot, with no tender procedure or evaluation basis set out yet. UKAEA has identified the requirement as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises, and the process is below the relevant threshold.

This will suit electrical engineering and power-distribution specialists able to supply 415V distribution equipment incorporating air circuit breakers. Suppliers may be well placed to contribute if they can manufacture a complete distribution panel ready for installation, or provide the component parts for UKAEA’s own assembly. Businesses with experience designing, assembling, testing and delivering low-voltage switchboards or comparable industrial power equipment should prepare to explain which delivery model they support. The market engagement is particularly relevant to SMEs because UKAEA has identified the requirement as suitable for them. Suppliers should be ready to advise on technical feasibility, component availability, manufacturing arrangements and the practical differences between a parts-only and complete-PDU solution.

## Notice

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority has a requirement for the replacement of an obsolete 415V PDU, which consists of four ACBs - an incoming feed and three subsequent ways. UKAEA are currently reviewing whether a future tender would be for the parts only (for UKAEA to build on site), or a complete PDU solution (all parts manufactured by the supplier and delivered as a distribution panel ready to install), and request market engagement to help inform the decision.
