## Summary

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust procured outsourced elective gynaecology services for around 500 patients awaiting treatment. The service covers the complete pathway from first outpatient appointment through consultation, clinical triage, diagnostics, investigations, treatment planning, treatment and clinically required follow-up, to discharge to the referring clinician or GP. It covers General Gynaecology, Vulval Disorders and Menopause Services, including hysterectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy, cystectomy, endometrial ablation, anterior and posterior repairs, and prolapse surgery. The provider remains clinically responsible until formal discharge, must manage records and correspondence securely, and must escalate patients needing urgent cancer assessment, emergency care or tertiary specialist services. Delivery is intended to be local to the Trust’s patient population, using facilities that avoid unnecessary transfer back to the Trust.

The procurement has reached award stage: Circle Health Group was selected through a Provider Selection Regime Direct Award Process C. The award date was 14 August 2026, with a standstill period closing at 23:59 on 2 September 2026. The contract period is 3 September 2026 to 31 March 2027, with a gross lifetime value of £310,000. The procedure was a direct award, justified by the supplier’s incumbent status, established service quality, integration with the existing pathway, value for money, local accessibility and the expected disruption from changing provider or mobilising a replacement. The award covers one completed lot and is for health and outpatient care services. The award is subject to the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023.

This procurement indicates demand for a provider able to deliver an integrated elective gynaecology pathway at NHS scale, rather than isolated clinical appointments. A credible future competitor would need qualified clinical teams covering general gynaecology, vulval disorders and menopause services, with capability across the specified surgical and diagnostic treatments. It would also need access to appropriate diagnostic, investigation and treatment facilities, and the capacity to manage patients continuously from triage to discharge without avoidable referral back to the Trust. Strong pathway coordination, secure handling of patient records, prompt clinical correspondence and clear escalation arrangements for cancer, emergency or tertiary-care needs are central requirements. The award rationale shows that continuity, local patient access, proven quality and minimal mobilisation disruption matter alongside clinical delivery.
