## Summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority intends to procure services to identify and assess existing technology for picking and placing graphite blocks using a remotely operated robotic system with a specialised end-effector tool. The requirement combines industrial robotics, remote-control equipment, mechanical handling and special-purpose machinery with engineering design and research and development. It is relevant to suppliers developing or integrating robotic handling systems, remote teleoperation, end-effectors and related engineering solutions. The work is intended for delivery in the United Kingdom and supports the Authority’s assessment of technologies for handling graphite blocks remotely. The procurement is a single service requirement rather than separate lots, and is being pursued by a central government public authority.

This procurement is at the planning stage: the Authority has stated an intention to procure, but has not issued an invitation to tender. A preliminary market engagement exercise is scheduled, with participation expected by 2 October 2026. The buyer expects the next notice to be published by 13 April 2027. The estimated value is £300,000 excluding VAT, or £360,000 including VAT. The planned contract period runs from 3 September 2027 to 31 March 2028. There is one lot, currently in planning, and the buyer has indicated that the requirement is suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary, community or social enterprises. No procurement method or evaluation weighting is stated at this stage.

The requirement is suited to businesses with proven capability in industrial robotics, remote teleoperation, robotic end-effectors and mechanical handling of heavy or specialised components. Strong candidates are likely to combine systems integration with engineering design, testing and research and development, and should be able to assess existing technologies rather than only supply standard equipment. Experience of remote operation in controlled, hazardous or technically demanding environments would be relevant to the stated application, particularly where precise pick-and-place performance is required. Specialist robotics manufacturers, engineering consultancies, technology developers, research-led firms and collaborative teams may all be well placed. The buyer has expressly identified the work as suitable for SMEs and VCSEs, supporting preparation by smaller or mission-led suppliers.

## Notice
