## Summary

Public Services Delivery Scotland, acting for the Common Services Agency, plans to procure red cell reagents for Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS). The supplies will support antibody detection and identification, ABO and Rh blood typing, and donor and patient phenotyping. They must be compatible with automated blood-grouping technology and will be used alongside manual testing; equipment and accessory devices are excluded. Testing covers donor and clinical samples, including samples referred by hospitals and internal laboratories. Delivery and use will span SNBTS locations in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness and Aberdeen, including the Jack Copland Centre in Edinburgh. The relevant categories are blood-testing reagents and blood-grouping reagents (CPV 33696200 and 33696100).

This procurement is at the planning stage: the buyer has announced an intention to buy but has not yet invited tenders. The planned procurement is arranged as one lot covering reagent requirements for both clinical and donor testing across SNBTS locations. The buyer expects the next notice to be published on 12 October 2026. The planned purchase is for goods and is covered by the Government Procurement Agreement. The future procurement will concern reagents for antibody detection and identification, ABO/Rh typing and phenotyping, compatible with the automated and manual testing arrangements described by SNBTS. The contracting process has not yet set out a tender procedure, evaluation basis, contract value or contract duration.

This will suit manufacturers, specialist distributors and laboratory-supply companies able to provide red cell reagents for blood-group serology at multiple Scottish transfusion-service sites. Relevant capability includes supplying reagents for antibody screening and identification, ABO/Rh typing and phenotyping, with products that work reliably on large-scale automated blood-grouping systems as well as manual methods. Suppliers should be prepared to support testing of both donor and patient samples and the requirements of clinical and donor-testing operations. Technical familiarity with Beckman PK7400 systems, Grifols Erytra and Eflexis analysers, and comparable laboratory workflows is likely to be useful. The planned scope excludes analysers, equipment and accessory devices, so the focus is on reagent supply rather than instrumentation.

## Notice

SNBTS requires to attain supplies of Red Cell Reagents compatible with automated technology and is for the anti body detection and identification only and not equipment or accessory devices. Antibody detection and ID, ABO/Rh typing and phenotyping is performed in SNBTS on samples taken from patients and donors. Initial testing on Donors for Anti body detection and ID and ABO/Rh typing is by large scale automated blood grouping systems; currently Beckman PK7300 and Phenotyping of Donors is performed manually and on automated systems. Testing of patient samples is performed at sites located at sites in Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, and Aberdeen). Samples referred from hospitals and internal laboratories are tested using both manual and automated systems. A selected number of donor and patient samples are also tested manually and on the Grifols Erytra and Eflexis blood group analysers.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

SNBTS requires to attain supplies of Red Cell Reagents compatible with automated technology and is for the anti body detection and identification only and not equipment or accessory devices. Antibody detection and ID, ABO/Rh typing and phenotyping is performed in SNBTS on samples taken from patients and donors. Initial testing on Donors for Anti body detection and ID and ABO/Rh typing is by large scale automated blood grouping systems; currently Beckman PK7400 and Phenotyping of Donors is performed manually and on automated systems. Testing of patient samples is performed at sites located at 6 sites in Scotland (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, and Aberdeen). SNBTS performs antibody detection and identification, ABO/Rh typing, and phenotyping on samples from both patients and donors. Initial donor testing for antibody detection and identification, together with ABO/Rh typing, is carried out using large-scale automated blood grouping systems, currently the Beckman PK7400. Donor phenotyping is undertaken using both manual and automated methods and is currently performed in Jack Copland Centre (JCC) on the Heriot-Watt campus in Edinburgh and the patient sample testing is carried out across Scotland: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, and Aberdeen. Samples referred from hospitals and internal laboratories are tested using both manual and automated systems. A selected number of donor and patient samples are also tested manually and on the Grifols Erytra and Eflexis blood group analysers. The tender will cover both areas in SNBTS that require reagents (Clinical and Donor Testing) and will be used by all locations of SNBTS (Jack Copland Centre, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen & Inverness). SNBTS requires to attain supplies of Red cell Reagents compatible with automated technology and is for the anti body detection and identification only.
