## Summary

Southern Water Services Limited procured primary treatment equipment in the form of lamella units for use at its water and wastewater treatment sites. The requirement covers water filtration apparatus and sludge-processing equipment, intended to support primary treatment while a wider filtration framework is established. The procurement is classified as goods and concerns equipment that can be hired or purchased. Delivery and operation are associated with Southern Water’s sites, although individual site locations are not identified. The buyer is Southern Water Services Limited, a private utility based in Worthing. The requirement is relevant to equipment manufacturers, rental providers and specialist water-treatment businesses supplying lamella or comparable filtration and sludge-processing systems for operational utility sites.

The procurement is complete and was awarded through a direct award to Siltbuster Limited. Southern Water justified the route because Siltbuster equipment was already operating at multiple sites, and changing provider could disrupt operations and continuity of service. The award value is £1,620,000 gross. The contract period runs from 11 September 2026 to 2 September 2027, with an option to extend by up to one year, to 1 September 2028, if the ongoing filtration tender has not completed. The award is above the relevant threshold and uses the technical-reasons single-supplier rationale. There is one completed lot, marked as suitable for SMEs and voluntary, community or social enterprises. A contract signature was scheduled for 11 September 2026.

This procurement demonstrates demand from Southern Water for deployable lamella treatment units that can maintain treatment operations across multiple utility sites during a transition to a longer-term filtration arrangement. A credible future competitor would need proven water-filtration and sludge-processing equipment, together with the operational capacity to supply, hire, install or support units at several sites. Experience of keeping critical treatment infrastructure running during a changeover would be particularly relevant, as continuity of service was central to the buyer’s direct-award rationale. Suppliers should also be able to provide dependable short-term arrangements and respond to the practical requirements of a regulated water utility. The opportunity is potentially accessible to smaller businesses, as the completed lot was identified as suitable for SMEs, as well as to larger specialist providers.

## Notice

A short term contract for Hire/purchaset of primary treatment units (lamella) until the full Filtration framework is established.

### Procurement Information

This direct award is due to us having siltbuster equipment already on multiple of our sites and the need to not have large disruption by switching to another provider and ensure our sites remain operational and maintain continuity of service to our customers. This is a short term solution whilst the Southern Water filtration tender is running that will establish a framework for these units.
