## Summary

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust bought additional echocardiography clinic services to address a staffing shortfall in its Echo department and support provision elsewhere, including emergency on-call cardiac catheterisation labs and the cardiac investigation unit. The supplier runs standard echocardiography clinics using the Trust’s equipment, reporting system, administration and referral services. Clinics are delivered at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, Guisborough Primary Care Hospital, Redcar Primary Care Hospital and Tees Valley Community Diagnostic Centre in Stockton-on-Tees. The requirement is for clinical service delivery rather than the supply of echocardiography equipment.

The procurement is complete and the contract was formally awarded through the Provider Selection Regime’s direct award process C, without a call for competition. The stated evaluation criterion was price. ICS Operations Ltd trading as Xyla was selected as the incumbent provider; one bid was recorded. The contract was signed on 21 September 2026 and is active. Its value is £324,480 excluding VAT, while the amendment describes estimated spend over the 24-month contract term as £342,420 excluding VAT. The original scope describes a two-year term. The lot is recorded as cancelled, but the later amendment confirms the formal award and the awarded contract is active. The process is subject to the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023.

This award demonstrates demand from South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for extra echocardiography clinic capacity across its hospital and community sites, using Trust-provided equipment, reporting systems and administrative and referral support. A credible competitor for a future requirement would need qualified echocardiography staff and the operational capacity to run standard clinics across several locations. Experience delivering cardiology diagnostic services in NHS settings, working within a buyer’s established clinical systems and coordinating referrals and clinic administration would be directly relevant. The buyer used the Provider Selection Regime’s direct award process C for this contract and selected the incumbent provider, with price as the stated evaluation criterion. Suppliers should therefore be able to demonstrate dependable staffing and service delivery at multiple sites, alongside competitive pricing.
