## Summary

NHS England intends to procure data-processing capability and related tools for information from hospital pharmacy systems, including licensing and implementation support. The planned service has two main aims: reporting for individual NHS trusts and a national dataset showing secondary-care medicine stock levels and daily issues; and a price-comparison tool to help trusts compare what they pay for medicines with prices under national NHS procurement frameworks. This is an IT and software service, including software development and support. The buyer is NHS England, and the work concerns secondary-care pharmacy data across NHS trusts in England. The procurement is currently at the planning stage: NHS England has stated its intention to buy this capability, but has not yet invited suppliers to tender.

The procurement remains at the planning stage, before an invitation to tender. NHS England has indicated that it expects the contract to start on 1 April 2027 and run to 31 March 2028, with a possible extension to 31 March 2029. The estimated value is £6.75 million excluding VAT (£8.1 million including VAT). The planned procurement is a single lot, with a framework agreement involved and renewal indicated. NHS England arranged a supplier webinar for 13 October 2026 to explain the programme’s requirements and aims; the engagement milestone is dated 1 November 2026. These are planning-stage expectations and engagement timings, not tender submission deadlines. The stated aims are to deliver medicine stock and issue reporting and compare trust prices against national NHS framework prices.

This planned work is likely to suit suppliers able to process data from hospital pharmacy systems and turn it into reliable reporting for both individual NHS trusts and a national dataset. Relevant capability includes software development, data-processing tools, licensing, implementation support and the ability to build a price-comparison function for medicine purchasing. Suppliers should be prepared to address two connected needs: showing stock positions and daily medicine issues in secondary care, and comparing trust-paid prices with national NHS procurement framework prices. The buyer has identified NHS trusts as users of the reporting and comparison functions, so experience delivering usable tools across multiple healthcare organisations would be relevant. The procurement is considered suitable for small and medium-sized businesses, offering scope for specialist software and data suppliers as well as providers able to support implementation.
