## Summary

Sellafield Limited procured specialist electrical, electronic and programmable systems support services for obsolete operational plant equipment that the original manufacturers can no longer support. The work covers fault investigation and repair of operational technology, including crane pendants, control boards, industrial control systems, input/output cards, processor cards and communications cards. It also includes developing and implementing a virtual keyboard for the Distributed Control System, replacing bespoke keyboards that cannot be reverse engineered or remanufactured. The purpose is to recover equipment and extend the life of critical operational assets as spare stocks decline and manufacturer support becomes less available. The services are for Sellafield’s operational plants in the United Kingdom.

The procurement is complete and was awarded by direct award to Like Technologies Ltd. Sellafield cited the supplier’s specialist capability and successful work under a previous contract as the basis for selecting it. The award is valued at £600,000 excluding VAT (£720,000 including VAT). The contract period runs from 9 November 2026 to 9 November 2027, with a three-month extension option and a maximum stated extent to 9 February 2028. The requirement was a single lot, marked as suitable for small and medium-sized businesses. The stated rationale for direct award was the limited availability of suppliers able to repair the range of obsolete operational technology equipment required.

This award shows demand from Sellafield for specialist repair and engineering support that can recover obsolete electrical and electronic operational technology when original manufacturers and other suppliers cannot. Suppliers seeking to compete for comparable work should be able to diagnose and repair a broad range of industrial control and instrumentation equipment, including control boards, crane pendants, processor and communications cards, and input/output cards. Reverse-engineering skills and the ability to develop practical alternatives for equipment that cannot be remanufactured are relevant, as is the capacity to support critical operational plant assets as spares diminish. The selected supplier was described as having demonstrated reliable repair solutions and a proven track record with Sellafield; a credible competitor would need evidence of comparable technical breadth and successful delivery.

## Notice

This requirement is for the provision of specialist repair, reverse engineering, and technical support services for obsolete operational plant equipment that can no longer be supported by the original equipment manufacturer. The scope includes the repair of electrical and electronic operational technology equipment, ranging from crane pendants and control boards to industrial control system, input/ output cards, processor cards, and communications cards. It also includes the development and implementation of a virtual keyboard solution for the Distributed Control System (DCS) to replace bespoke keyboards that cannot be reverse engineered or remanufactured.

### Procurement Information

The Operational Plants Reliability Engineering Teams and Operational Technology Group are experiencing increasing challenges in recovering systems and equipment due to severe obsolescence and the limited availability of specialist repair providers. Like Technologies has demonstrated a proven capability over the last 12 months through a previous contract, successfully repairing equipment that could not otherwise be recovered and extending the life of critical assets. Demand for their services is increasing across site as spare stocks continue to diminish and original equipment manufacturer support and capability to repair obsolete equipment declines. Like Technologies has established a strong track record providing innovative and reliable repair solutions. Existing suppliers can only support a limited range of Operational Technology equipment, in contrast, Like Technologies possesses the specialist expertise required to support a wider range of obsolete industrial and electronic instrumentation. Several Operational Plants have been unable to repair critical electronic instrumentation through other routes and have requested Operational Technology Group support to facilitate investigations and repairs through Like Technologies. Their niche expertise in repairing obsolete equipment and developing effective alternative solutions makes them uniquely positioned to meet this growing business need. The above is in accordance with PA23 Schedule 5, Paragraph 6.
