## Summary

The General Medical Council (GMC) is planning to buy inclusive career development services to support career progression for underrepresented groups. Its current intention is to divide the work into two areas: an organisation-wide equality, diversity and inclusion programme, and an inclusive leadership development programme. This is a training and professional development requirement. Delivery is intended to cover the United Kingdom. The programmes are expected to address how inclusive career development is designed and delivered, with support tailored to participants and a focus on progression and outcomes.

The process is at the planning stage: the GMC has set out an intention to procure, but has not issued an invitation to tender. Its current plan is to split the requirement into two lots, although the published planning details describe only one lot. The stated estimated value is £200,000 including VAT. The expected contract period is 15 March 2027 to 14 March 2030, with a possible extension taking the period to 14 March 2031. The GMC expects to publish a further notice by 6 January 2027. It held virtual pre-market discussions with six suppliers on 6 October 2026 to explore capability, delivery models and commercial considerations.

The GMC’s market engagement concluded that suppliers can support a range of inclusive career development programmes and that the requirement is suited to market capability. It explored programme design and delivery, mentoring, coaching and sponsorship, measurement of participant outcomes and impact, accessibility, inclusivity and participant support. Suppliers with experience designing and delivering organisation-wide equality, diversity and inclusion programmes or inclusive leadership development may be well placed to prepare for the future procurement. The GMC has marked the requirement as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises and voluntary, community and social enterprises, so these suppliers may also find the planned work relevant.

## Notice

The GMC is reviewing the market to inform a future procurement for inclusive career development services, with the current intention of dividing the requirement into two lots: an organisation-wide EDI programme and an Inclusive Leadership Development programme.
