## Summary

Ceredigion County Council is considering buying food hygiene and food standards inspection services across Ceredigion. The work would cover official inspections of food businesses, including separate or combined hygiene and standards inspections, Food Hygiene Rating Scheme inspections and rating decisions, and risk rating under the Food Law Code of Practice. The provider would submit inspection reports and supporting documents, and identify and escalate significant food safety risks for further action by the Council. This is a public-sector regulatory inspection service, rather than food supply or catering. The Council expects a future notice around 11 January 2027. The planned contract period is 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2030, with an option to extend to 31 March 2031. The estimated value is £60,000 excluding VAT (£72,000 including VAT). The service is presented as one lot, with suitability indicated for SMEs and voluntary, community and social enterprises. This work is suited to Environmental Health Practitioners or Food Safety Practitioners with the qualifications and competence to undertake official food controls. Providers should be able to cover both food hygiene and food standards, including combined inspections, food hygiene ratings and risk-based assessments of food businesses. Demonstrable experience carrying out official controls in line with Food Standards Agency requirements and the Food Law Code of Practice is sought. The Council may expect contractors to supply appropriately authorised officers competent in both areas. The engagement is relevant to specialist inspection consultancies and individual practitioners, including SMEs and social-purpose organisations able to provide suitable staff and deliver coverage across Ceredigion. Suppliers can use the planning stage to assess their capability and interest before any later competition is launched.
