## Summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is buying inspection, testing and maintenance of low- and high-voltage electrical switchgear across its sites: University Hospital of Wales, University Hospital Llandough, Barry Hospital, Woodland House and Genomics. The work is intended to keep hospital electricity supplies secure and reliable, with protection systems able to interrupt faults quickly and safely. This is electrical building installation maintenance, rather than a supply-only purchase. The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership is managing the procurement for the Health Board.

The buyer invited offers through an open procedure. The single lot has an estimated value of £300,000 excluding VAT (£360,000 including VAT). The contract is scheduled to run from 11 January 2027 to 10 January 2031. Questions were due by 16:00 on 16 November 2026, and offers by 12:00 on 23 November 2026; the award decision was scheduled by 21 December 2026. Evaluation gives 60% to the commercial offer and 40% to technical quality. Economic and technical selection criteria apply, with detail set out in the procurement documents. Electronic submission is allowed, and offers may be submitted in English or Welsh.

This opportunity suits electrical engineering and maintenance contractors with the expertise and operational capacity to inspect, test and maintain both low- and high-voltage switchgear across a varied healthcare estate. Suppliers will need to demonstrate technical capability and economic standing against the selection requirements, as well as a credible approach to protecting continuity of hospital power and ensuring faults are safely interrupted. The multi-site scope calls for the ability to coordinate work across hospitals and other Health Board premises. Small and medium-sized businesses are identified as suitable to compete. Technical quality is a substantial part of the evaluation, alongside price, so bidders should be able to evidence a sound delivery method as well as a competitive commercial offer.

## Notice

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have a requirement for the inspection and maintenance for the low voltage and high voltage switchgear located across all UHB Sites (University Hospital of Wales, University Hospital Llandough, Barry Hospital, Woodland House, and Genomics). The purpose of high voltage equipment maintenance is to ensure that the supplies to the hospital remain secure and robust. Any faults on the system are interrupted quickly and safely automatically via a well-maintained protection system. This opportunity is being published as an open tender on eTenderWales.
