## Summary

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, acting on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board, has completed a procurement process for "Blood Cell Separators and Line Kits". This procurement falls under the healthcare industry and was initiated on 26th October 2020, with a total contract value of £300,000. The procurement method used was a limited award procedure without prior publication, necessitated by the specific compatibility of the kits with existing Optia Cell Separator Machines at the Institute of Medical Genetics in Cardiff. The goods were delivered to the University Hospital of Wales, located in Cardiff, UK.

This procurement represents a significant opportunity for suppliers specialising in medical consumables and equipment, particularly those with products compatible with Terumo BCT systems. Businesses that manufacture or supply blood processing and medical consumables are well-suited to compete, especially those capable of responding to specific technical specifications and demonstrating reliability in delivering critical healthcare supplies during a time-sensitive procurement process. This will not only enhance their visibility in the public sector but also position them as preferred suppliers within the healthcare framework in Wales.

### Procurement Information

The Institute of Medical Genetics within Cardiff and Vale LHB purchased an Optia Cell Separator Machine a number of years ago. The kits are specific to the Terumo BCT machines already installed within the Health Board. To change these machines would be at an extra cost to the Health Board at present which is not viable and during the current climate the Health Board cannot disrupt blood services. The machine can handle 48 samles at a time and is the only large volume blood extractor that is in the laboratory. The kits are requried to undertake the process.
