## Summary

The University of South Wales is actively engaged in the procurement process for the supply and installation of a decanting centrifuge, essential for the Sustainable Environment Research Centre's VFA Factory project aimed at utilising organic waste for producing volatile fatty acids. This initiative falls under the goods category and invites open tenders from suppliers. The tender period concluded at midday on 17th February 2022, with the award date marked on 3rd March 2022. The procurement process is located in Pontypridd, Wales, and involved a competitive bidding process which attracted two bids.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those specialising in industrial machinery, centrifuges, and associated equipment. Companies with a proven track record in supplying similar machinery in the UK and the capability to meet the technical requirements outlined in the specifications would be ideal candidates. This procurement not only supports the development of green chemicals but also aligns with buyers seeking innovative and sustainable solutions in sectors such as cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, and energy.

## Notice

The Sustainable Environment Research Centre (SERC) at the University of South Wales is seeking to procure a decanter centrifuge for 2 phase separation (solid-liquid separation) as part of the 'VFA Factory' - project number USW263, funded by Ser Cymru II - WEFO ERDF Programme 80761.The project aims to utilise organic waste streams as feedstock for the production of high value, green and renewable volatile fatty acids (VFAs). These VFAs are platform chemicals and can pave way for the production of a range of green chemicals (end products) of interest to various sectors including cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical and energy sectors. The decanter will be part of a pilot plant that will be set up within the Sustainable Environment Research Centre at USW. Specifically, the decanter should be able to handle typical slurry inflow rates of 4-10 L/h (maximum flow rates < 100 L/h) with typical solids concentration of 5 wt%.
