## Summary

The North Wales Wildlife Trust is initiating a procurement process for the "UMDIM Project: Himalayan balsam management Rhewl to Berwyn," focusing on services aimed at managing the invasive species Himalayan balsam along the River Dee in Denbighshire. The key tender period ended on 19 July 2022, with the award of the contract to Wildbanks Conservation following a process that attracted three bids. This project, part of the Nature Networks Fund, aims to address biodiversity decline in the region and is strategically aligned with previous management efforts undertaken by the North Wales Resilient Ecosystem Pilot Project.

This tender presents significant opportunities for growth, particularly for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as volunteer organisations across the UK, that are engaged in environmental services and biodiversity management. Businesses with expertise in invasive species control, ecological restoration, or environmental consultancy will be well-positioned to compete in similar future tenders, contributing to sustainable development and ecological preservation initiatives in Wales.

## Notice

The North Wales Wildlife Trust's (NWWT) Upper and Middle Dee INNS Management project (UMDIM) aims to manage the invasive non-native plant species Himalayan balsam on both banks of the river Deebetween Rhewl (SJ 17328 42542) and Berwyn (SJ 23365 42295) Denbighshire. Invasive species are one of the main drivers of biodiversity decline globally. The environmental, economic, and social impact of invasive species in Wales will continue to grow unless they are managed with a sustainable and joined-up approach. The work outlined within this tender will complement invasive species management already undertaken by NWWT's North Wales Resilient Ecosystem Pilot Project (NWREPP) working in Upper Deearea.NWWT wishes to appoint an organisation to work with us to manage the invasive non-native plant species Himalayan balsam, to facilitate the development of our management strategy of controlling invasivenon-native species in the River Dee Catchment which has been running for over a decade.
