## Summary

Flintshire County Council has issued a tender for the construction of a new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at Standard Yard, Buckley, Flintshire. The project aims to address the significant growth in demand for processing recyclable materials, which has overwhelmed the current Waste Transfer Station (WTS). With a critical need for further investment, the facility's capacity and infrastructure must be expanded to maintain processing quality. The tender is currently in the active stage, with a deadline for submissions by 14th November 2022.

This procurement opportunity offers businesses in the construction and waste management sectors the chance to compete for a substantial contract with a total value of £5,000,000. Companies specialising in works related to waste processing, facility construction, and environmental infrastructure are well-suited to bid for this project. By participating in this tender, businesses have the opportunity to contribute to the development of essential waste management infrastructure in Flintshire, UK, while gaining a valuable contract with Flintshire County Council.

## Notice

Standard Yard's Waste Transfer Station (WTS) has seen significant growth in processing demand, both in terms of the quantity and quality of recyclable materials collected at the kerbside. However, the WTS is now operating at its maximum capacity, and lacks the space and facilities to be able to take in more materials and/or additional waste streams for processing. Without further development and investment in the facility, the rise in the quantity of the materials collected will start to compromise the quality. At peak times of the year, the site struggles to cope in terms of space and room for processing, depositing and storage of materials. The maintenance and inefficiencies of current machinery is no longer sustainable. Therefore, the facility is at a critical point and significant further investment in infrastructure is required. Funding has been awarded in both 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 to redevelop the site into a new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) for the County. FCC intends to tender the design/construction and handover of a brand new state of the art facility.
