## Summary

The NHS Wales Shared Service Partnership has completed the procurement process for the "Optometry Prison Service Provision" tender. The tender was awarded to the supplier The Prison Opticians Company. The service involved providing optometric services to prisoners of HMP Usk and Prescoed with a contract value of £15,120,000. The procurement method used was an open procedure, and the tender was part of the services category. The tender was published on 16th January 2024, with a submission deadline on 8th February 2024. The High Court was involved as a review body in this procurement.

This tender presents a business opportunity for optometry service providers interested in offering services to prison populations. Companies in the health industry, particularly those providing ophthalmic services, with a track record of delivering quality care to diverse populations, would be well-suited to compete. Due to the urgent nature of the required service, businesses capable of quickly mobilising resources and meeting stringent quality standards are encouraged to consider participating in similar future tenders to support public health initiatives efficiently.

## Notice

The nature of this service is to provide optometric services to prisoners of HMP Usk and Prescoed which is equivalent to that provided to members of the general public as far as possible. The ophthalmic service will provide a community equivalent ophthalmic service that meets the needs of patients, with equity of access within the prison. The ophthalmic service will work with all health and wellbeing service providers to deliver an integrated service where clinicians work together as a team to deliver patient centred care.
