## Summary

NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services, hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, has awarded a contract for the insourcing of Radiology Doctors as part of the Swansea Bay University Health Board's (SBUHB) initiative to reduce waiting lists in breast radiology symptomatic services. The procurement process, which is now in the award stage, involved a direct award under the Countess of Chester On-site Surgical and Medical Capacity Solutions Framework due to extreme urgency. The services are designated to be delivered at Neath Port Talbot Hospital or Singleton Hospital, located in the UKL18 region. This procurement initiative specifically addresses challenges of a national shortage of consultant radiologists, with the service start date expected in June 2025. The procurement method was limited and did not involve a prior public call for competition, valued at £129,600.00.

This contract opens significant opportunities for businesses in the healthcare sector, particularly those specialising in insourced medical staffing solutions. The direct award method, driven by urgent needs, showcases opportunities for large-scale medical service providers capable of swiftly delivering specialist healthcare personnel to fulfil critical NHS requirements. Firms like Friends Medical Service Limited, already awarded this contract, illustrate how organisations with an existing framework alignment may leverage their capabilities to support public health initiatives. Businesses that can rapidly deploy skilled medical professionals, specifically in radiology, will find this type of contract to be conducive to growth and market establishment within the UK’s public health sector.
