The contractor will be working to raise water tables across blanket bog by blocking drainage ditches and gullies with peat or coir dams and reprofiling or tamping the extensive peat hags. Pen Bwlan is 72ha of more fringe peatland, bordering the large hefts of blanket peatland with acid grassland and dry heath elements. Extensive drainage, cutting and historic overgrazing on Pen Bwlan has resulted in the site being unlike any other on the Lake Vyrnwy estate; with peat hags rife and significant peat area lost, leaving only "islands" of peat remaining.______________________________________________________________________This summer, the RSPB will release a further 3 separate invitations to tender relating to peatland restoration or surveying, with work completion some time between 01/10/2025 and 15/03/2026.
