## Summary

Swansea University is seeking to procure an Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) detector to replace an aging system within its Advanced Imaging of Materials (AIM) Core Facility on Bay Campus. The procurement falls under the category of goods, specifically focusing on spectroscopy devices and laboratory, optical, and precision equipment. This open tender, currently in the tender stage, concludes with submissions due by 14th January 2026, while the award is anticipated by 30th January 2026. The procurement is managed through eTenderwales, requiring interested parties to register and submit documentation via the platform. The EDS detector is crucial for maintaining compatibility with both existing and anticipated equipment, ensuring seamless operation for the Jeol 7800F Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope.

This tender offers lucrative opportunities for businesses specialising in the manufacture and supply of spectroscopy and laboratory equipment, particularly those with expertise in energy dispersive systems compatible with electron microscopes. Companies that provide innovative solutions for scientific research and precision engineering are well-positioned to compete in this procurement process. It is a strategic chance for businesses to expand their presence in the academic and scientific sector by enhancing Swansea University's research capabilities and technological infrastructure on Bay Campus.

## Notice

The current generation of EDS systems available to ECR's within the core facility are reaching end of life support and need replacing. We are hoping to procure an EDS system to replace the current X-Max that is currently installed on the Jeol 7800F Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscope (FEG-SEM) on Bay Campus. To maintain compatibility and function of other systems said EDS system must be able to work in conjunction with our current Nordlys EBSD, and Wave WDS and the future potential of a Symmetry/Swift detector and Aztec operating system. This system will be delivery to the Advanced Imaging of Materials (AIM) Core Facility on Bay CampusNOTE: The authority is using eTenderwales to carry out this procurement process.
