## Summary

The Welsh Government, located in Cardiff, is at the award stage of a procurement process titled "C060/2025/2026 - Caerphilly Castle South Dam Wall - Phase 2". This tender falls under the works category, focusing on restoration work at Caerphilly Castle, a site of cultural and historical significance. The project involves conservation tasks like removing vegetation and repointing the south dam curtain wall. The procurement was initiated through a mini competition from the Cadw Conservation Works Framework, specifically aimed at mitigating masonry falls. The contract with an award value of £271,995 was signed on 5th January 2026 with Taliesin Conservation Limited as the supplier. The location for this opportunity is in Caerphilly, and it is critical to note that this award adheres to Scheduled Monument Consent requirements.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses specialising in conservation and restoration, particularly those with capabilities in historical site preservation. The project offers potential growth for companies experienced with rope or scaffolding work, ensuring safety and compliance with monument consent regulations. Such businesses can benefit from aligning themselves with frameworks like the Cadw Conservation Works, which provide a platform for continuous collaboration with governmental bodies on heritage conservation projects. Companies capable of managing logistical challenges in restoration projects and those with competitive bidding strategies might find this tender process rewarding.

## Notice

Mini Competition from Cadw Conservation Works Framework C049/2021/2022Cadw Properties in Care / Visitor Services noted a number of (minor) masonry falls along the length of the curtain wall to the south dam platform. This area is, eventually, to be repurposed as the play area for the Caerphilly Castle redevelopment project so risks of further masonry falls need to be mitigated as best as possible. The aim/objective of the works are to remove vegetation from the wall top, and both faces of the wall, rake out loose/defective mortar and repoint (using an approved lime mortar) to the wall top and elevations of the south dam curtain wall. Any loose stones will be re bedded in existing positions.RequirementCadw expect the successful bidder to provide a safe compound in which to work, followed by undertaking the required works. Works can be carried out from rope or scaffolding. The works are to be carried out in accordance with the associated Scheduled Monument Consent and contract drawings.
