## Summary

On 27th February 2026, NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership-Procurement Services (hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust) awarded a contract for the procurement of clinical engineering vehicles to Days Contract Hire. The healthcare-focused procurement involves the acquisition of hybrid and fully electric vehicles to support Cardiff and Vale University Health Board's essential medical equipment services across Wales. This tender falls under the health industry category and is governed by a restricted procurement procedure. The awarded contract, valued at £110,283.36, was signed on 26th February 2026 and is aligned with NHS Wales' decarbonisation plan promoting low-emission, energy-efficient innovations.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses in the automotive and health sectors, particularly those specializing in low-emission and energy-efficient vehicle solutions. The selected fleet, including models such as Ford Kuga FHEV and Kia Niro EV, showcases the growing demand for environmentally friendly transportation solutions. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) keen on entering supply agreements for sustainable vehicle technologies, especially in public healthcare contexts, can anticipate potential growth and partnership opportunities. The restricted procedure encourages selective competition, enabling specialised suppliers to engage in future procurement processes closely governed by regulated frameworks in the healthcare industry.

## Notice

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CAVUHB) require a vehicle replacement agreement for 6 vehicles to support the Clinical Engineering Department's delivery of essential medical equipment services across Wales.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The Clinical Engineering Department requires a modern, reliable fleet of 6 vehicles, to support the delivery of specialist medical equipment services across CAVUHB sites and to patients throughout Wales. The proposed fleet, comprising of hybrid and fully electric models, reflects current market trends toward low-emission, energy-efficient vehicles that offer operational flexibility and reduced running costs. The selected vehicles (Ford Kuga FHEV) (x1), Kia Niro EV (x2), and Toyota Corolla FHEV) (x3) are readily available and known for their reliability, suitability for multi occupancy travel. They also have the capacity to transport specialist equipment. The transition to hybrid and electric vehicles aligns with NHS Wales' 2025-2030 decarbonisation plan and aim to only operate electric vehicles. The use of electric vehicles also will also see a reduction in maintenance and repair costs. However, the lack of electric vehicle infrastructure outside of urban areas across Wales has resulted in Clinical Engineering also incorporating hybrid vehicles into this requirement, to ensure continuity of key services with minimal disruption
