The construction approximately 700m of road on a mainly green-field site to the southern edge of Kirkwall. The work includes the construction of a new roundabout and junction to link in to the existing road network along with footways and footpaths along length of the new carriageway. The construction of filter strips, swales, detention basin and detention pond are also included in the work along the landscaping and planting associated with this work. Also included is the replacement of a section of existing culvert and the construction of small headwalls. Street lighting and road signage are to be provided along the length of the new road and it is expected that minor diversionary works will be needed to the BT network along with protection of an existing OIC fibre-optic duct. Accommodation works required include the construction of a new field entrance, replacement of a gate and the construction of new stone dykes and stock fences. The demolition of existing stone dykes and the storage of the resulting stone also forms part of the work.
