## Summary

The procurement process for the Digital Xtra Fund, initiated by The Skills Development Scotland Co. Limited, is part of an open tendering procedure aimed at promoting digital skills among young people across Scotland. The fund has set aside £150,000 to support extracurricular computing science initiatives, following the successful awarding of £250,000 to 12 diverse projects. Notable key dates include the contract being signed on 10th February 2017, with the procurement prominently situated in the education and public services sector. The main delivery addresses are located within the UK, primarily under the jurisdiction of Scotland.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in educational services, technology training, and programme delivery focused on digital skills. Organisations that design and implement extracurricular activities in computing or provide resources for learning digital skills would be particularly well-suited to compete in this tender. Suppliers with innovative approaches to engaging young people in technology and coding, including those offering software, courses, or hands-on training programmes, may find this an advantageous opportunity to expand their reach and contribute to the digital development of Scotland's youth.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

The Scottish Government strategy sets out an ambitious plan to make Scotland a world class digital nation by 2020. Skills development will be an integral component in helping young people prepare for the digital future. At a time when the Scottish digital technologies sector is forecast to grow and there is increasing demand for staff with high level digital technology skills, there is clear evidence that the talent pipeline in Scotland needs to expand to meet this demand. More young people should be encouraged to study computing science related subjects at school, college and university and redressing this balance is crucial to ensure the competitiveness of Scottish companies both within the digital technology sector and beyond. The Scottish Government is committed to closing the digital skills gap faced by all sectors across the economy and investing in the digital skills of young people is crucial to achieving this ambition. Launched in May 2016, the Digital Xtra Fund has been developed and funded by the Digital Scotland Business Excellence Partnership whose partners include Scottish Government, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Island Enterprise, Scottish Funding Council, Education Scotland, ScotlandIS and ICT Sector industry representatives. The Digital Xtra Fund is intended to support enterprising organisations that give young people opportunities to learn computer science related digital skills and contribute to widening the provision of extracurricular computing science related activities to all young people aged 16 and under, whatever their background and wherever they live in Scotland.
