It is proposed that an emergency oxygen bag containing an emergency oxygen cylinder and accessories will be provided and supported for approximately 1000 GP practices in all parts of Scotland, this may inevitably rise as larger practices elect to hold more than one bag. The emergency oxygen is intended to be used to provide immediate support for patients who become ill whilst visiting the GP practice and for whom an ambulance has been called. NSS are seeking to appoint a single contractor who will provide a quality, safe, equitable, efficient and cost effective emergency oxygen supply and support service across Scotland. The successful contractor will be expected to work in a collaborative fashion with NSS in the identification of service development opportunities in order to respond to the changing needs of patients and to identify potential cost reduction measures to ensure the sustainability and cost effectiveness of the service in the current challenging financial climate.
