## Summary

The procurement process for the GE Dexa Scanner was conducted by the University of Edinburgh, a body governed by public law dedicated to education, located in Edinburgh, UK. The open tender, initiated under the Procurement (Scotland) Regulations 2016, has reached the award stage as of the contract signing on 14th June 2017, with a total value of £144,838. This project involved securing a high-end imaging Densitometer for diagnosing and monitoring osteoporosis, with delivery expected in the Edinburgh region. The procurement encompassed one lot, with only one bid submitted for consideration.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses in the medical equipment sector, particularly those specialising in advanced imaging technologies. Companies with expertise in high-end medical devices, especially in DEXA scanning technologies, would be well-positioned to compete for future contracts in this area. The single bid for this project indicates a potential for less competition, making it an attractive opportunity for specialised suppliers looking to expand their market presence in the healthcare industry.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Under Regulation Reg 6(1)(b)(ii of the Procurement(Scotland) Regulations 2016, a contracting authority may award a contract without competition based on following justification: Competition is absent for technical reasons (only if it is not caused by artificial narrowing down of the parameters of the procurement and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists) DEXA measurements were done using a Lunar iDXA on the University of Birmingham Research Bus, which was hired for the first study visits in May 2017. Unfortunately this machine will now not be available for forthcoming study visits. Future measurements must be made using the same type of scanner, since the variability between scanners is significant.
