## Summary

The University of Edinburgh is seeking to procure two SliceScope Pro Recording Rigs with associated equipment for their Centre for Integrative Physiology. This procurement falls under the goods category and has been initiated through an open procedure. The award was completed on 14th June 2017, and the total contract value is £144,838. The procurement process is now complete, with the delivery address located in Edinburgh, UK.

This contract presents significant opportunities for technology suppliers, particularly those specialising in electrophysiology and laboratory equipment. Businesses with expertise in producing scientific instruments compatible with existing systems used by the University of Edinburgh will be well-placed to compete for similar future contracts. The established relationship between the university and winning supplier, Scientifica, underscores the importance of compatibility and trusted partnerships in successful procurement outcomes.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Under Regulation Reg 6(1)(b)(ii) of the Procurement(Scotland) Regulations 2016, a contracting authority may award a contract without competition based on following justification: Competition is absent for technical reasons (only if it is not caused by artificial narrowing down of the parameters of the procurement and no reasonable alternative or substitute exists) Our existing rigs in the Centre for Integrative Physiology and also those located in the Chancellor's Building, together with ones in our collaborative centre - the Centre for Brain Development and Repair in Bangalore, India use Scientifica-based recording systems and therefore we want to ensure compatibility between these two new rigs and existing ones. This is efficient when training new researchers and also means that experiments can be conducted on any rig and will be carried out under equivalent data acquisition environments.
