## Summary

The University of Edinburgh has successfully completed the tender process for the acquisition of goods, specifically the Odyssey CLx Infrared Imaging System, designed to replace an outdated scanner that is critical for research activities at the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology. The procurement was executed through an open procedure, with the contract value estimated at £64,392. The award date was June 26, 2017, and the procurement falls under the education industry category. The University is located in Edinburgh, Scotland, and serves as both the buyer and the central purchasing body in this transaction.

This procurement offers significant opportunities for businesses in the scientific instruments and imaging technologies sector, particularly those that specialise in advanced equipment for research environments. Companies with experience in infrared imaging systems or those aiming to supply similar high-tech goods will find this market conducive to growth. Engaging with the University of Edinburgh and similar educational institutions presents a pathway for businesses looking to enhance their portfolios and establish long-term partnerships within the academic sector.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This is to replace the existing Li-Cor Odyssey infra-red scanner as Li-Cor say they will no longer provide a service contract or technical support for it after the end of this year. This is a heavily used piece of equipment in the Centre used by multiple research groups. We have named the Odyssey CLx Infrared Imaging System, the new model, in our new core grant and have recently had this model demonstrated alongside a competing camera and led light based system by Syngene (GBox Chemi XX9). We tried both machines using the same blots and gels and the Odyssey proved to be far more sensitive and picked out bands that the Syngene missed. The Odyssey is used daily by anywhere between 4 to 10 researchers and replacing with the new Odyssey CLx and its new improved software would minimise any training time required for our staff to get up to speed on using the scanner. Indeed the new software has simplified many of the parameters from the old software. It would also minimise any comparative results recalibration required compared to replacing it with the Syngene camera based system which has different scale of sensitivity.
