## Summary

The National Galleries of Scotland is currently engaged in a procurement process for the "Stonework Repairs - Scottish National Portrait Gallery" project. This initiative falls under the works category, specifically targeting the recreation, culture, and religion sector. The procurement method is selective, using a restricted procedure, with a deadline for submissions set for 27 October 2017. The contract's delivery location is situated in Edinburgh, at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, which is a listed category A building within a Conservation Area. As of 19 February 2018, the procurement stage is complete, with Ashwood Scotland Ltd awarded the contract on 8 January 2018.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in stonework repair and conservation, particularly those experienced in working on historical buildings. Companies with a strong portfolio demonstrating relevant skills and experience, such as stone finial and crocketing repairs, would be well-positioned to compete for similar contracts in the future. Firms looking to engage in public contracts should ensure they meet the specified criteria for technical expertise and possess the necessary compliance certifications to be considered for upcoming projects with the National Galleries of Scotland.

## Notice

This building is listed category A by HES and is located in a Conservation Area. A number of defects have been observed to the fine stone finials, crockets and pendant bosses located around the statue niches on the North and East elevations and on the four spires. There are over 200 finials, hundreds of crockets and approximately 68 pendant bosses. Approximately 70% of these fine details are in need of replacement, repair or stabilization. At least two of the four spire heads are in need of stabilization. Repairs are to be carried out in accordance with Architect/ Engineer's details. Replacement of details will require new stone to match existing which will require sample testing and petrographic analysis of existing stonework. Stabilization and repair will include dowelling and rebedding of existing stonework. Sample testing of existing mortars will be required. Work to include erecting of scaffolding to allow high level access with all necessary permits and certificates.
