The harmonic distortion is a consequence of the addition of non-linear loads over time including UPS equipment, computers, variable speed drives and LED lighting. Harmonic distortion can have detrimental effects on the life of electrical equipment and result in higher current and temperature in neutral conductors and distribution transformers. This project aims to mitigate the effects of harmonic distortion on the electrical distribution system this project aims to provide for the installation of active harmonic filters in the identified sites. The complete project is to consist of the full Design, supply, installation, test and commissioning of harmonic filters to HMP Barlinnie, HMP Glenochil and HMP Perth.
