## Summary

The Scottish Borders Council is overseeing the tender process for the redevelopment and expansion of the Jim Clark Museum located in Duns, Berwickshire. This project, classified under the works category, includes a planned extension to link the existing museum to a disused garage, significantly enhancing the facility's overall capacity. The tender is currently active, with a submission deadline set for 20 April 2018 at noon. The council has employed an open procurement method for this process, allowing for a broad range of bidders to participate, highlighting its commitment to transparency and competitiveness in public procurement.

This procurement opportunity presents significant growth prospects for businesses, particularly those in construction, renovation, and museum-related services. Companies that specialise in heritage developments, sustainable building practices, or those with experience in public sector projects would be particularly well-positioned to compete. With the estimated project value of £850,000, suppliers are encouraged to present innovative solutions that could enhance the museum’s offerings while meeting community needs outlined by the council.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This project is for the delivery of a redeveloped and expanded museum reflecting the life and career of former world champion racing driver Jim Clark who lived in the Scottish Borders. The new facility will redevelop the existing building and create an extension linking it to a disused garage to create a significantly larger museum in the heart of Duns. This will allow the permanent collection to be displayed alongside racing cars and also have space for visiting exhibitions. The overall internal floor area of the new facility will be approximately 400 square metres. The museum is currently housed in a Category B Listed Georgian town house in Duns which, until recently, was also a local area office for Scottish Borders Council. The building is in need of renovation. A stone garage (stables) dating from the same period is adjacent to the museum building and is to be incorporated into the new design by being refurbished and linked to the main building by a new extension. The extension will form the main entrance to the new facility. There will be minor downtakings of outbuildings to create sufficient space for the extension. There will also be significant remodelling of the main building including the removal of the existing staircases, some ground floor walls and the opening of the west and north walls at ground floor level. The building is currently heated by electric night stores. Mains gas is present in the street to the front (south) of the building. The building is served by mains water and drainage.
