## Summary

The Scottish Natural Heritage is initiating a procurement process for the "Corncrake Habitat Survey 2018," focusing on environmental protection within the Western Isles. The buying organisation aims to conduct an assessment of corncrake habitats, which are under threat, and the procurement is currently in the planning stage. Interested parties should note that responses must be submitted by 09:00 on 6 April 2018, and the procurement process will move forward following this deadline, with communication regarding invitations to quote anticipated on 13 April 2018.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in environmental assessment, wildlife surveys, and ecological consultancy. Firms with experience in conducting habitat surveys, particularly using established methodologies such as those from the RSPB, will find this project aligns perfectly with their capabilities. The work entails detailed field surveys in designated Special Protected Areas, thus firms engaged in ecological and environmental services in the UK, especially in the Western Isles, should consider applying to enhance their growth and expand their project portfolio.

## Notice

The Western Isles are one of the core areas for the UK's population of breeding corncrake. Due to declining numbers, corncrake are on the UK Red List for birds. This tender will serve to provide SNH with: - A detailed assessment of current habitat types and an indication of farming practices across six Special Protected Areas (SPA), in relation to corncrake suitability. - A comparison of the current habitat types and farming practices with those found during the corncrake habitat survey (Booth & Milne, 2000), enabling an assessment of potential habitat management effects on corncrake numbers.
