## Summary

The University of Edinburgh, located at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, has completed a procurement process for the 'Harvey' Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator. This procurement falls under the goods category within the educational and medical research sectors. The procurement was carried out using an open procedure, and the contract was awarded to Laerdal Medical Ltd, the sole UK distributor of the simulator. The contract, valued at £50,000, was signed on 1st May 2018, following a long-standing need to replace the current simulator due to equipment failure.

This tender presents valuable opportunities for businesses in the medical education and simulation industry, particularly those specialising in medical training equipment and technologies. Given the specific nature of the requirements, firms with expertise in innovative healthcare solutions and a track record of supplying compatible medical devices would be well-positioned to engage in future procurements. Additionally, businesses that can provide ongoing support and maintenance for such equipment may find themselves at a competitive advantage in future procurement processes.

## Notice

The University has been using the 'Harvey' Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator to teach undergraduate medical students for over 16 years and due to equipment failure and a lack of available spare parts we need to replace the current version located in seminar room 3 in the Western General Hospital Medical Education Centre. In 2016, the University purchased the Next Generation Harvey(r) - The Cardiopulmonary Patient Simulator to replace the first generation of the manikin located in the Chancellor's Building which had come to the end of its life.
