## Summary

The Scottish Borders Council is initiating the Hawick Flood Protection Scheme, a major procurement project in the civil engineering sector, aimed at enhancing flood protection for 930 properties in Hawick, UK. The procurement is currently at the planning stage, with key dates including a Contractors and Suppliers Information Day on 29 August 2018, the release of the Invitation to Tender in December 2018, and a projected Tender Close in April 2019. The contract has an estimated value of £37 million and encompasses works related to the construction of flood defences and associated infrastructure.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for civil engineering firms, construction companies, and environmental services providers to engage in a significant public works project. With a robust focus on environmental protection and community benefits, businesses that specialise in flood defence systems, civil infrastructure, and sustainable construction methods would be well-suited to compete for this contract. The project not only promotes immediate growth prospects but also contributes to long-term resilience against flooding in the region.

## Notice

The Hawick Flood Protection Scheme (Scheme) is a major project advanced under the Council's Flood Protection Scheme Programme. The Scheme has been developed by the Council and their Design Consultant, Jacobs (formerly CH2M Hill and Halcrow) since 2010. The Scheme will deliver flood protection against the 1 in 75 year flood event to 930 residential and commercial properties at risk along the river Teviot and Slitrig water through Hawick. The Scheme will also deliver multiple benefits to the town of Hawick, maximising the cultural, heritage, educational, environmental, energy and health opportunities that a major civil engineering project can deliver in partnership with the community and external organisations. The Scheme has been approved under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009 and the Design Consultant is progressing the Detailed Design. The Main Works Contract is the single construction contract through which the construction works of the Scheme will be delivered.
