## Summary

The procurement process titled "Product Innovations – Research, modelling and creating the case for circular services" is being conducted by Zero Waste Scotland Ltd, an organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable practices. This tender focuses on the environmental protection industry and is based in Stirling, Scotland. Currently active in the Tender stage, the procurement is set to conclude on 27th August 2018. The estimated value of the contract is £110,000, with an open procedure allowing electronic submissions through the specified platform.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses that specialise in consultancy services related to environmental sustainability, particularly those with experience in circular economy practices. Companies capable of primary and secondary research, market trend analysis, and the development of operational and financial models would be well-suited to compete. The collaboration with NHSScotland suggests that successful bids could facilitate transformative projects within the healthcare supply chain, creating avenues for innovative solutions that align with the growing demand for sustainable practices.

## Notice

ZWS and NHSScotland are looking to work together to support the transition, accelerating the change whilst ensuring that there is no disruption or risk to the supply chain for medical and associated products. By working with NHSScotland to identify products which can adopt more circular practices but don't present a risk to frontline services, support can be provided to the supply chain through subsidising trials and piloting services.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

National Procurement a division of National Services Scotland procures 2 bn GBP worth of products and services per annum on behalf of NHSScotland Health Boards. Many of these products are purchased in a linear way, where they are used and then discarded as waste. Whilst the nature of healthcare leads to a significant use of single use items NHSScotland acknowledges the need to review the use of single use products and the possibility of moving to durable alternatives and where this is not possible look for remanufacture/recovery opportunities to keep valuable resources in use for longer. It is estimated by NHSScotland that there is an opportunity to move to more circular systems of supply and management for over 50% of non-pharmaceutical spend, and that this in turn will drive cost savings as well as environmental savings in terms of reduced carbon impact.. Economic operators may be excluded from this competition if they are in any of the situations referred to in regulation 58 of the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015.
