East Dunbartonshire Council intends to appoint Main Contractor for a street scape improvement project. This project will form 'Lenzie Sustainable Transport Hub' - a sustainable travel interchange which will include; high quality paving, innovative cycle facilities (public pump, secure parking), improved bus facilities, a new public space, etc. 1.2 This project is an element of the wider Lenzie to Bishopbrggs project which aims to facilitate and encourage people to travel actively and sustainably. This will be achieved by introducing a new active travel route from Lenzie Station to Westerhill Industrial Estate, bus infrastructure improvements and the creation of Travel Hubs - areas with improved pedestrian and cycle infrastructure connected to public transport facilities. 1.3 The project area is situated at Lenzie Train Station, Lenzie and Kirkintilloch Road. Although there is a nature reserve opposite the station, the area is dominated by cars. This project aims to increase the 'place function' of the area by using principles of 'place-making' (Designing Streets, 2010) to actively encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport.
