### Lot Information

Lot 1

Through the Can Do Innovation Challenge Fund FES are seeking innovative ways to achieve cost effective establishment of young forest trees by reducing mortality from Hylobius abietis damage. The pine weevil, Hylobius abietis, is present throughout the UK and, as an adult, is the most serious pest of young, newly planted trees on sites where conifers formed the preceding tree cover. This project will be led by FES partnered by Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council. The overall programme will be delivered over two phases. This PIN notice is to inform the market of the upcoming opportunity to bid for phase 1 of a potential 2-phase competition. A decision to proceed with phase 2 will depend on the outcomes from phase 1. Phase 1 involves research and development contracts being awarded to demonstrate technical feasibility of the proposed solution to the damage caused to young trees by the Hylobius abietis Pine Weevil.. FES intends to open the competition in mid September. All applications will be submitted through the Innovative UK website and will be for phase 1 of the project.
