## Summary

The Scottish Government is inviting tenders under the title "CR/2018/13 - Improving our understanding of seabird behaviour at sea," aimed at utilising existing data to enhance the comprehension of seabird behaviour in marine environments. This project, classified under the services category with CPV code 73000000, is currently in the active tender stage. The deadline for submission of bids is set for 2nd October 2018, at 12:00 noon, with the award period commencing shortly thereafter. This research project, located in the UK, specifically focuses on improving seabird behaviour understanding in various weather conditions and the diel cycle. Interested suppliers can view the complete tender details and relevant documents through the provided electronic submission portal.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in ecological research, data analysis, and environmental consultancy. Companies with experience in ornithology, marine biology, or related fields would be well-positioned to compete, particularly those familiar with seabird behaviour and data interpretation. Engaging with this procurement process can bolster business growth by leveraging the demand for environmental studies and contributing to key insights for marine renewable assessments. By participating in such research projects, businesses can not only enhance their portfolio but also play a vital role in advancing ecological understanding and policy development.

## Notice

The aim of this research project is to utilise existing data to improve the understanding of seabird behaviour at sea. Specifically, the study will aim to: Investigate how weather conditions and the diel cycle influence seabird behaviour, and how this may differ from information gained from good weather, daylight surveys. Refine flight speed estimates of seabird species.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

8 The research objectives for this project are as follows: Source and analyse existing data to determine how behaviour varies across the diel cycle (e.g. time of day activity level and light level changes) and under different weather conditions for Atlantic puffin, common guillemot, razorbill, European shag, black-legged kittiwake, northern gannet, herring gull, lesser black-backed gull, and great black-backed gull. Preference for existing data sources will be from UK studies, but may be extended depending on availability. Determine whether distributions or behaviour during good weather daylight conditions typical of at-sea surveys differ from other times and conditions. Further analyse the collated data to provide updated flight speed parameters for black-legged kittiwake, northern gannet, herring gull, lesser black-backed gull, and great black-backed gull. Consider the implications of the results on the assessment of marine renewables and provide recommendations on changes required.
