## Summary

The Scottish Government is conducting a procurement process for the project titled "Providing the evidence base for the development of a Fire Danger Rating System." This project, which falls under the services industry category, is intended to adapt the Canadian Fire Weather Index to the specific conditions in Scotland. Currently in the active tender stage, the submission deadline for bids is 6th November 2018, with the bid opening occurring on the same day. The procurement follows an open procedure, inviting all interested parties to participate, with the contract worth approximately £169,856.12, having been awarded to the James Hutton Institute on 7th February 2019.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in research, fire safety, and environmental modelling, particularly those that can demonstrate expertise in fire science, vegetation ecology, and meteorology. Companies interested in this project should consider forming collaborative partnerships to meet the diverse range of skills required to fulfil the project's objectives. Such collaboration may provide access to larger contracts and enhance reputational growth within the public sector.

Develop realistic fuel models for relevant vegetation fuel types, incorporating: i) diurnal, seasonal and annual variability of fuel moisture content in different types of live and dead vegetation; ii) physical and physiological factors that influence this variability iii) spatial variability in distribution of vegetation types. Identify threshold values for ignition of relevant vegetation fuel types. Calibrate FWI codes against fire incidence data.
