## Summary

The Scottish Government is seeking to assess the viability and sustainability of mobile abattoirs in Scotland through a tender titled "CR/2018/40 - Assessing the viability and sustainability of mobile abattoirs in Scotland." This procurement falls under the services category and is classified within the general public services and public order and safety sectors. The tendering process, which is currently active, is managed through an open procedure, allowing suppliers to submit their bids electronically. The deadline for submissions is set for 12th February 2019, with the award decision period commencing shortly after on the same day. The primary location for this procurement is within Glasgow, UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in agricultural services, mobile processing solutions, and research consultancy, particularly those with expertise in livestock management and sustainability assessments. Companies well-versed in the logistics of mobile services and those capable of conducting comprehensive feasibility studies on abattoir operations in rural settings will be particularly well-suited to compete. Engaging in this contract could potentially enhance a business’s profile in the public sector and contribute to environmentally sustainable practices in Scotland’s agricultural industry.

## Notice

This study will determine whether or not mobile abattoirs would be viable in Scotland by providing detailed research of all aspects of what would be required, including the impact mobile abattoirs would have on the viability of existing processing facilities and supply chains.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

This study will determine whether or not mobile abattoirs would be viable in Scotland by providing detailed research of all aspects of what would be required, including the impact mobile abattoirs would have on the viability of existing processing facilities and supply chains. This information will be used to determine whether or not the Scottish Government should take forward further work or consideration to promoting and assisting the use of mobile abattoirs in Scotland. By slaughtering more animals in Scotland, and therefore closer to their place of production, benefits could be gained in the form of lower transport costs and transport carbon emissions, while also maximising economic and social benefits to rural communities across Scotland and increased animal welfare.
