## Summary

The Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is seeking proposals for the identification of potential sites for a road salt storage facility in the Stornoway area. With the procurement process currently in the planning stage, the title of the notice is "Potential Sites for Salt Storage Facility". This falls under the general public services category, and suitable sites should allow for the storage capacity of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 tonnes of road salt, with minimum criteria such as sufficient space and direct access to the public road network. Interested parties should note the communication date for future notices is set for 12th April 2019.

This tender represents a unique opportunity for businesses involved in land development, logistics, and construction to expand their services in the Outer Hebrides. Companies with expertise in assessing potential development sites, as well as those that can facilitate building projects that meet the specified criteria, will find this opportunity particularly relevant. Engaging with the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar can lead to long-term contracts, especially given the authority’s commitment to establishing a permanent facility to enhance winter maintenance operations in the region.

## Notice

Identification of sites in Stornoway area that may have potential to be developed as a road salt storage facility.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar is the unitary local authority for the Western Isles (Outer Hebrides) of Scotland. It is responsible for the provision of winter maintenance services throughout the area. Annual winter maintenance operations will use approximately 6000-8000T of road salt in Lewis and Harris. A significant element of the Comhairle's winter maintenance policy is the establishment of a permanent road salt storage facility in or around Stornoway with the capacity to store up to 8000T of road salt. The Comhairle is currently assessing the suitability of two potential sites for construction of the salt store and are seeking to confirm whether any other suitable sites in or around the Stornoway area are currently available for the Comhairle to purchase or lease. Suitable sites may be existing buildings or bareland green/brownfield sites, but should meet the following minimum criteria: -Sufficient space to store 6000-8000 tonnes of road salt. (This would equate to an approximate building footprint of 50m by 30m with an eaves height of around 7m) -Direct access to the public road network -Suitable for HGV access -Mains electricity and water connections on, or nearby, the site.
