## Summary

The procurement process initiated by the University of Edinburgh involves the award of a contract for an advanced cell isolation and analysis system, branded as Vycap. This tender falls under the goods procurement category and is linked to the education and medical research industries. The contract was signed on 17 January 2019, and the delivery is expected at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, UK. The procurement method employed was an open procedure, with only one bid submitted for this contract.

This contract provides significant opportunities for businesses specialising in innovative medical technologies, particularly those focusing on cell analysis and isolation solutions. Companies that offer advanced imaging systems or microfluidic technologies could find themselves well-suited to compete in future tenders of a similar nature, especially those looking to enhance research capabilities in educational or healthcare settings. Engaging with the University of Edinburgh's procurement processes could lead to fruitful collaborations and market expansion for the right suppliers.

## Notice

The ability to isolate cells with the ability to then analyse them: the Analysis system uses an inverted fluorescence microscope that works with self-seeding microwell chips, where the cells are floated over an array and then fill individual wells.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

Up until recently there has been no automated technology available to sort cells based on their morphological features, which can then be isolated for subsequent molecular analysis. In the past, experiments in the Human Genetics Unit to isolate single cells for RNAseq procedures have been conducted by laborious laser capture microdissection, which take days to produce only a very few viable cells, with a then limited ability to further analyse such cells; which is neither cost or time effective. New technology now available combines the ability to isolate cells with the ability to then analyse them: the VyCAP Puncher system uses an inverted fluorescence microscope that works with self-seeding microwell chips, where the cells are floated over an array and then fill individual wells
