## Summary

The University of Edinburgh conducted a tender for the procurement of a Spinning Disc Confocal Microscope System, aimed at enhancing research capabilities within the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences. This contract is categorised under the goods procurement method and has reached the award stage, following an open procedure. The tender was awarded to Nikon UK, with the contract signed on 28 May 2019, valued at approximately £243,756. Key delivery will be facilitated at the Chancellor’s Building in Edinburgh, with the procurement process having seen a total of five bids submitted.

This procurement presents a valuable opportunity for businesses specialising in advanced imaging technologies and equipment, particularly those capable of supplying high-resolution microscope systems. Companies with expertise in laboratory equipment, particularly in the educational and research sectors, would be well-positioned to consider participation in similar tender processes in the future. The potential value of the contract, alongside the provision for optional enhancements, underscores the opportunities for suppliers to engage in innovative solutions for educational institutions.

## Notice

The University of Edinburgh is looking to procure a Spinning Disc Confocal Microscope System to be housed on the ground floor of the Chancellor's Building. The main purpose of this system is for high through-put 3D high resolution imaging of large, fixed specimens and for high-speed 4D imaging of live specimens. The system will be available to a number of researchers and groups, and as such should be ready-to-use and easy to set up prior to imaging. We aim to apply the spinning disc confocal microscope for rapid, high-resolution imaging of synapses (average size 0.2-0.5 um), known to be altered in neurodevelopmental disorders. Our primary goal is systematically imaging synaptic proteins across the entire rodent brain, with ideal laterally and axially high resolution at subcellular level (via high magnification/high NA lens combined with potential post-objective magnification).
