## Summary

The procurement process for the "**Quick Connection Systems - R&D Services Call**" is organised by **Wave Energy Scotland Limited** (WES), a subsidiary of Highland and Islands Enterprise, aimed at the **energy** sector located in **Inverness, UK**. The procurement is currently in the **Award** stage, with the contract for the project having been signed on **9 December 2019**. The total value for the contracts awarded is **£461,222**. The process followed an **open** procurement method, enabling participation from various interested parties. Notably, bids for this tender were due by **16 September 2019**. This initiative supports the commercialisation of wave energy through feasibility studies, focusing on the technology and operations necessary for connecting offshore devices.

This tender presents significant opportunities for **small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)** in the energy field, particularly those involved in research and development of marine technologies. Companies that specialise in feasibility studies, quick connection systems, or offshore engineering would be ideally positioned to leverage this contract. With three stages available for development, businesses willing to engage in innovative partnerships could find pathways to substantial future growth within the emerging wave energy market, stepping into a role that addresses both technical and commercial challenges in the sector.

## Notice

This is a Contract Award Notice and as such the procurement process has now ended. Wave Energy Scotland (WES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Highland and Islands Enterprise and is taking an innovative approach to supporting the commercialisation of the wave energy sector until the technical and commercial risks are low enough for the private investment to re-enter the sector. This call is for feasibility studies on Quick Connection Systems (QCS). The overall objective of the QCS programme is to reduce the duration, cost and risk of offshore operations for early stage wave energy converters. This call focusses on the technology and operations used to make the connection between a wave energy device and its moorings and/or electrical system.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

WES can offer up to 100% of the project costs to a maximum of GBP 70,000 for Stage 1 projects via a contract for Research and Development services. WES awarded 7 contracts for Stage 1 (3 months duration). Successful projects will undertake a feasibility study on the proposed QCS in Stage 1, followed by the design and analysis of this concept in Stage 2, and build & test in Stage 3. Note, applications were limited to Stage 1 at this time. Successful projects will later have the opportunity to progress through competitive Stage Gates to Stage 2 and 3 of the programme.
