## Summary

The City of Edinburgh Council is currently actively managing a tender titled "Award of Treatment & Disposal of Mechanical Street Sweepings and Gully Waste." This contract falls under the services industry category, specifically focusing on waste management, including recycling and disposal. The procurement process began on December 1, 2019, and is scheduled to conclude on November 30, 2024. The Council's responsibility under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 necessitates the procurement of services that efficiently handle the uplift, treatment, and disposal of waste arising from mechanical street sweeping operations, thereby ensuring public spaces remain free of litter and refuse.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses involved in waste management and recycling services. Companies capable of executing the treatment and disposal of recyclable and residual waste, particularly those equipped to manage mechanical street sweeping by-products, would be ideally positioned to compete. With a substantial contract value of £787,845, this is an attractive prospect for service providers looking to expand their operations, particularly those who can demonstrate expertise in sustainable waste practices and compliance with environmental regulations.

## Notice

The Council has a statutory obligation under s.89 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to ensure that the land and roads for which it is responsible are, so far as is practicable, kept clear of litter and refuse. The Council wishes to procure a service for the Treatment and Disposal of Recyclable and Residual Waste. The successful Service Provider will be required to carry out uplift, receipt, treatment and disposal of Mechanical Street Sweepings and Gully Waste, with the purpose of extracting recyclables and reducing the amount of waste destined for disposal. The Contract will cover waste arising from Mechanical Street Sweeping operations as defined by Controlled Waste Regulations 1992 only. It does not include arising from litter bins or litter picking.
