Due to the differing nature of the waste, substance and materials involved, the Framework Agreement is split into five defined waste stream schedules for general waste & materials through to specialised waste and materials across up to five geographical regions. The Framework Agreement also includes two lots designed to provide access to innovative solutions for specific waste streams and materials to further promote the waste hierarchy and circular economy.

The Authority is seeking Contractor(s) to provide Waste Management Services for general waste, recyclates & recoverables within Edinburgh, Lothians, Borders and Stirlingshire. The purpose of this lot is to assist the Scottish HE & FE sectors to reduce their overall waste volumes and to support initiatives led by Zero Waste Scotland, avoiding disposal to landfill and moving their waste streams up the waste hierarchy increasing re-use, recycling and recovery.

Renewal: The Authority reserves the right to extend this Framework Agreement for a further 24 months.

F - Innovative Food Waste

The authority is seeking Contractors to provide and innovative Waste Management Service for all types of food waste and associated biodegradable materials, including catering sundries. This approach should encourage and include sustainable and environmentally friendly processes to maximise waste segregation and minimisation to overall reduced waste sent to landfill. We are seeking alternative solutions to those offered within the general waste stream schedule and deliver innovative sustainable approaches that may otherwise not be delivered as part of the standard waste management service approach.

Renewal: The Authority reserves the right to extend the Framework Agreement for a further 24 months.

G - Innovative Redundant IT & Electronics Solutions

The purpose of this lot is to provide access to alternative and more innovative solution for the collection, treatment, re-purposing, re-use and recycling of Institution's redundant IT and electronics items that may be considered end of life by the institution but retains an operational ability or intrinsic value to those offered with the WEEE lots which will focus on and deliver innovative sustainable approaches that may otherwise not be delivered as part of the standard waste electronic and electrical equipment management service approach. Contractors in this lot are not required to cover the full scope of WEEE but should demonstrate innovative solutions that may involve, but are not be limited to, circular economy initiatives, refurbishment and repair or more efficient recovery processes to reflect and promote the higher levels of Waste hierarchy (Reduce, Re-use & Recycle) to facilitate repurposing or re-use of products and/ or component parts including distribution to charitable, social enterprises and other bodies with full chain of audit, creation of social benefits, contamination reduction, removal of waste creation, and other approaches focused towards the top tiers of the waste hierarchy whilst maintaining no disposal to landfill.
