The fast turnaround of the results for each month means that the survey is a key indicator in monitoring the performance of the tourism industry in Scotland. VisitScotland (formerly the Scottish Tourist Board) commissioned the first occupancy survey in the 1970's and they have evolved into the series of Accommodation Surveys which exist today. VisitScotland is running a tender exercise to find a suitably qualified supplier to continue the delivery of this survey.
