## Summary

West Lothian Council is initiating a procurement process for "Visual Impairment Services" aimed at providing essential support and assessment services to pupils, parents, and staff in West Lothian schools. The procurement is currently in the planning stage, with a future notice date set for 25 November 2019. The services required include functional vision assessments, advice on educational implications of visual impairments, and direct teaching of skills such as Braille. This opportunity falls within the general public services category under the CPV classification (85000000), and the services will be delivered in the Livingston area.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses that specialise in educational services, particularly those with expertise in visual impairment support and assistive technologies. Companies that can offer training and resources to enhance the educational experiences for children with visual impairments will be especially well-suited to compete. Providers with experience in working within educational settings and delivering tailored support services will likely find this tender aligns with their capabilities and goals for growth in the public service sector.

### Lot Information

Lot 1

West Lothian Council Education Services requires a qualified and experienced service provider to provide all West Lothian schools with: functional vision assessments; advice and support to parents; advice to schools and nurseries on the educational and social implications of a visual impairment; direct teaching of specific skills, for example, Braille and mobility; advice on the provision of suitable resources; in-service training for school staff and other professionals; liaison with other agencies and professionals. Specifically for West Lothian children and Young People this service means a 0-18 provision with Qualified Teacher of Visual Impairment (QTVI) input direct to pupils in schools, where required and the training and upskilling of school staff through both presentations and modelling. A variety of technology including iPads and braille equipment is to be provided together with adapted resources including large print and braille. The mobility assessment and programs provided are crucial to allow pupils to travel to/from and move around school independently with canes or other aids. This involves intensive support for pupils at times of transition i.e. P7 into S1 particularly.
