## Summary

Glasgow City Council is seeking contractors for the project titled "The Conversion of a Council Refuse Collection Vehicle," aimed at developing a hydrogen fuelled refuse collection vehicle (RCV). This procurement falls under the services category and utilises an open procedure for tendering. The contract was awarded on 31st March 2020, and the project is situated in Glasgow, UK, specifically requiring operational capabilities that meet or exceed those of a standard diesel-fuelled RCV. The conversion involves substantial modifications, maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, as well as ensuring the vehicle operates efficiently over long durations without refuelling.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses engaged in green technology, vehicle modification, and waste management services, particularly those with expertise in hydrogen technologies. Companies like engineering firms specialising in vehicle electrification or those involved in sustainable transport solutions would be well-suited to leverage this contract for growth. With the growing emphasis on environmentally friendly solutions, this project aligns well with the current market trends seeking innovative and sustainable transport alternatives within local government contracts.

## Notice

The scope is to create a truly hydrogen fuelled RCV which is suitable for seamless drop-in replacement for diesel fuelled vehicles. GCC shall provide the convertor with a fully operational 26ton refuse waste collection vehicle as detailed below of which the council will retain title. The requirement is to emulate a standard RCV's daily duty, of uninterrupted service of at least 12 hours without refuelling. The converted RCV must be able to achieve the operational characteristics of a standard 26 tonne diesel powered RCV, with regard to the ancillary equipment (compaction and bin hoists) and must be fully compliant with existing design and build regulations relating to payload and axle weight criteria. The vehicle must be returned to Glasgow City Council Road legal including a new M.O.T. Consideration must be given to anticipate weight derogation for alternative powered vehicles as payload cannot be compromised. The requirement is for a Hydrogen Fuel cell powered vehicle with no range extender assistance permitted.
