## Summary

Zero Waste Scotland Ltd, a central purchasing body based in Stirling, is currently engaged in a public procurement process titled "Mapping and Forecasting Battery Use in Scotland". This project falls within the environmental protection industry category and has reached the Award stage as of October 26, 2020. The tender aimed to analyse the battery market and disposal methods in Scotland and is now complete, involving the remote provision of services from suppliers located across the UK. The procurement was conducted using an open procedure, with the initial tender period ending on September 7, 2020.

This opportunity presents significant growth potential for businesses specialising in environmental services, consultancy, and market analysis related to battery usage and disposal. Firms with expertise in electrical and electronic waste, circular economy practices, and sustainability initiatives would be particularly well-suited to compete for future contracts stemming from this project. As Zero Waste Scotland continues to focus on circularity and sustainability, vendors capable of demonstrating innovative solutions and a comprehensive understanding of the battery lifecycle will find ample opportunities for collaboration and expansion in this sector.

## Notice

The aim of this project is to provide the Project Group - led by Zero Waste Scotland and supported by Transport Scotland and Scottish Enterprise - with a 'rapid mapping' exercise for all battery types to broadly assess the market and current disposal methods. This information will feed into a more detailed assessment of electric vehicle batteries, including future casting projections, to ensure Project Group members are better placed to provide support necessary for the industry to accelerate circularity and exploit market opportunities.

### Lot Information

Mapping of All Battery Types in Scotland

Lot 1: Mapping of All Battery Types in Scotland is responsible for delivery of Phase 1 and Phase 2 requirements. Phase 1 involves the mapping of the current battery sector in Scotland to quantify the types of battery used and where, the materials those batteries contain, how they are currently disposed, and whether the current systems and regulations are working for Scotland to recover maximum value from the resource. All battery types are in scope for this phase of work. Phase 2 involves the preparation of a report that considers - and quantifies where possible - the future for non-electric vehicle batteries in Scotland, considering how battery uses and chemistries might change and the potential for Scottish companies to engage with opportunities to improve sustainability and increase circularity within the supply and disposal chains. Further information is provided in the Tender document.. Economic operators may be excluded from this competition if they are in any of the situations referred to in regulation 58 of the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015.

The Future of Electric Vehicle Batteries in Scotland

Lot 2: The Future of EV Batteries in Scotland is responsible for delivery of Phase 3 requirements only. Phase 3 involves the preparation of a report that considers - and quantifies where possible - the future for electric vehicle batteries in Scotland, considering how electric vehicle battery use and disposal will develop through to 2050 and determining the key opportunity areas for Scotland and what is required to fully benefit from their implementation. This will include all modes of transportation - road, rail, aviation and shipping. Further information is provided in the Tender document.. Economic operators may be excluded from this competition if they are in any of the situations referred to in regulation 58 of the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015.
